Amritsar in northern India is a city in the state of Punjab, located close to the Pakistani border, just 20 miles east of Lahore.
Amritsar's main tourist attraction is the Harmandir Sahib, also known as the Golden Temple. This Sikh shrine is the spiritual and cultural centre of Sikhism, and attracts thousands of visitors a day.
