Cologne
Cologne started life as a Roman town, of which a few remnants still remain to be seen today. Situated on the banks of the River Rhine, Cologne is a vibrant city, well known for its landmark gothic cathedral, which dominates the skyline.
As well as its Roman roots, Cologne also has a pretty Old Town, which dates back to the 14th Century. Today its cobbled streets are lined with cafes and are a delight to explore. Although steeped in history, Cologne is definitely a modern city, with a variety of museums, including a chocolate museum, art galleries, thousands of pubs and restuarants, and fantastic shopping.
