Stuttgart is a city in southern Germany, and capital of Baden-Wurttemberg. Much of central Stuttgart was damaged during World War II, but a comprehensive programme of reconstruction has resulted in a mixed centre of modern architecture nestled amongst reconstructed historic buildings. These include Altes Schloss - the Old Castle and Neues Schloss - the New Castle and now home to government offices.
Stuttgart is also home to many parks and gardens, as well as a zoo with home to over 8000 animals plus Europe's largest magnolia grove. The city is also well known as a cultural centre with an opera house, theatres, concert halls and many museums including the State Museum of Natural History.
Stuttgart's Christmas Market is one of the largest and oldest Christmas Markets in Europe. Filled with decorations, this beautiful event takes place in the 4 weeks leading up to Christmas.
