Edinburgh is a fine historic city with much to see and explore. There are castles galore including the magnificent Edinburgh Castle. Thirlestane Castle, one of Scotland's oldest and finest with fairytale turrets and towers; Tantallon Castle standing high on the cliffs and dating back to the 14th century; and Lauriston Castle, a 16th century tower with a rich collection of furniture and art offering a glimpse of Edwardian life.
The gardens at the imposing palace of Holyrood House, Her Majesty the Queen's official residence and the chambers of Mary Queen of Scots, are open to the public. And while you are in the city you cal step onboard the Royal Yacht Brittania.
With lots of parks, ruins and open spaces, Edinburgh is a great city for walking and enthralling views. The long and charming Princess Street takes you through the heart of the city where there are museums, art galleries and some very cosmopolitan shopping. With a thriving arts scene and vibrant nightlife, be prepared for some late nights. The Edinburgh Festival in August each year runs the gamut from high brow arts to fringe and comedy culture. It is great fun as visitors from around the world gather to perform or watch the huge array of shows on offer.
