Located just 20 minutes from Shannon Airport, Ennis a pretty little town. With medieval beginnings, Ennis is a delightful base from which to explore the surrounding countryside.
To the east of Shannon is the 15th Century Bunratty Castle, which has been painstakingly restored, and now looks much as it did in the 1700s. The Folk Park next to the Castle is also an interesting place to visit, with 26 acres displaying a recreation of rural life 100 years ago.
For natural wonders, head for The Burren. Situated in North Clare, The Burren is an enormous limestone plateau - a geological phenomenon. The natural erosion of this plateau has formed a limestone pavement. For another fascinating day out, visit the Cliffs of Moher. The sheer cliffs rise 200m from the Atlantic, and stretch for an amazing 8km - an awesome sight, and important nesting site for thousands of seabirds.
