Well, after visiting the city you'll be asking why they didn't name it three - or even four - times.
The city is actually made up of five boroughs (The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island) but, it's usually the glamorous island of Manhattan that gets the most attention - so that's where we're heading. The backdrop to so many movies, novels and songs, Manhattan is familiar to many of us, but still manages to remain full of surprises - if you look hard enough. What definitely isn't surprising though is that, because NY is such a melting pot of cultures, there's a delightful mix of cuisines across the city.
Along with the classic sites Empire State, Statue of Liberty, Grand Central station etc etc, there are countless other hidden gems to discover...like Chelsea Pier for an evening tour afloat, aboard a 80-foot schooner. Cruising the Hudson River towards New York Harbour, the champagne and impressive shimmering light show courtesy of Manhattan's famous skyline can't fail to create the mood for love. Take to the skies to see the skyscrapers from a different perspective, escaping the urban frenzy on a helicopter tour. For a special treat, have a horse-and-carriage ride à la 'Sex & The City'!
Magical at Christmas-time, NY's at its most romantic when it snows… take to the ice at the Rockefeller Centre or Central Park...perfect excuse for falling into their arms! Shopping's the law in NY...bursting with chic boutiques, it's home to more designer outlets than you can shake your credit card at and those with a passion for fashion splash-the-cash in the glittering shops of 5th Avenue. Macy's is a must or get loved-up in style at glamorous department store, Bergdorf Goodman.
