Formal consultation between the Airport Company and local communities is based on the Birmingham International Airport Consultative Committee. Birmingham Airport seeks to achieve a comprehensive input to discussions by ensuring fair representation of the full range of users of the Airport and of local interests. The Committee has an independant chair and membership includes representatives from local councils, local residents associations, parish councils, community groups, chambers of commerce and other Airport users. Representatives from the Airport Company, Air Traffic Control and airlines also attend the Committee
In addition to the main Committee, two sub-groups exist to provide a wider forum for informed debate in two key areas and to act in an advisory capacity to the main Committee. The Environment Monitoring Working Group deals with environmental and operational issues and the Passenger Services and Surface Transport Working Group considers passenger-related and surface transport issues.
