• Flight School

kids-windowFlight School is Birmingham Airport’s new education facility, officially opened on 1st February 2012 by The Right Honourable Vince Cable MP, the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills. Situated within the terminal building and with unrivalled views across the airfield to the runway, Flight School offers dedicated spaces for both Primary and Secondary groups, each with Interactive White Boards and PC’s to support formal teaching or independent learning. A STEM zone gives students hands-on access to activities that illustrate the practical application of science and technology.

Flight School is self-contained, with toilets and facilities for eating yet also provides easy access to the terminal, where the workings of a busy airport can be observed at first hand. A library of resources is available to support your visit and we make no charge for visiting Flight School.

You must book to visit Flight School, but it’s a very easy 3-Step process. Before we take you through it, you should choose your age group
  • Moving Forward

Moving Forward is a collaborative project originally established by the Airport Company and now enjoying the support of partners including Aston Manor Transport Museum, British Waterways, The Royal Navy (HMS Daring) and its education development partner, Small Heath School.

Moving Forward aims to address the ‘disconnect’ and lack of understanding between young people and the industrial heritage of the Midlands which has led to engineering failing to be seen as a career path for students of school leaving age. Moving Forward seeks to create enthusiasm through demonstration and interaction, by providing young people with ‘real’ projects from which they can gain real experience.

  • Partnerships & Events

As the Midlands major airport, we receive many approaches from schools and colleges right across the region, requesting our support or involvement in all sorts of projects. Due to the volume of requests we receive, we have taken the decision to focus the majority of our education work on key establishments which are either close to the airfield or flight paths, or with which we have  developed a close relationship over several years. In this way, we can deploy our resources more effectively, providing in-depth and ongoing support and have a greater impact on those communities which are worst affected by our operation
