Aviation Security Officer

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Security team as an Aviation Security Officer.

Take a look at what some of our current members of staff think of their roles.

My favourite part of my job is the environment I work in

I am an Aviation Security Team Leader. My role involves overseeing operations in the passenger search area, responding to issues, maintaining our equipment and ensuring all our customers have a friendly and safe journey to their destination. I started 5 years ago as a security officer joining both my mother and sister who work for company. I progressed on to become a Support Officer, mentoring and coaching new recruits. After 3 years I was promoted to my current position.

My favourite part of my job is the environment I work in. There is a large diverse family of staff and approximately 20,000 excited passengers per day coming together to make a fantastic atmosphere. I get to talk to many different, interesting people and I am guaranteed to go home at the end of the day with a good story to share.

There is an excellent training and induction plan for anyone joining the Aviation Security Team

I joined Birmingham Airport as an Aviation Security Officer in March 2018, after a year I was delighted to be recruited into the new security Guru programme. As a Guru I am required to coach and mentor new recruits, following their classroom training. Along with my fellow Gurus, we work hard to help our new colleagues settle into the team, providing guidance and support. I am pleased that my hard work during my first year has resulted in me becoming a Security Guru, I hope to continue my personal development within the business. There is an excellent training and induction plan for anyone joining the Aviation Security Team and as a Guru I am proud to support that.

I was impressed by the way you are regarded as part of the Birmingham Airport family

I have been at the Airport for just over seven years, six of which has been as an Aviation Security Supervisor. I arrived with a wide range of experience gained during a long and varied career. From the outset, I was impressed by the way you are regarded as part of the Birmingham Airport family and an integral part of its success and future development. Working in Aviation Security I have gained new skills and thoroughly enjoy the variety and challenges that each day brings.

There is scope for progression with lots of opportunities to learn and develop yourself within a great organisation

I’ve worked for Birmingham Airport for 4 and a half years. I started as a Security Officer which is a varied role delivering Aviation Security, mentoring and training staff and recently been progressed to a seconded Aviation Security Team Leader. It’s a job where every day can pose a new challenge.

The Airport has a very clear path of where it wants to be in the future and there is scope for progression with lots of opportunities to learn and develop yourself within a great organisation. Been a part of Birmingham Airport, we also get great benefits such as the share scheme, pension, and bonus.

At the heart of what I enjoy most is knowing we deliver a very important service to keep the public not only safe but delivering great Customer Service which makes this a very rewarding job!
