Summer is well and truly here: schools are out, festivals are on, and the sun is shining (well…sometimes).
Millions of passengers are flying from Birmingham Airport en route to their summer holiday destinations. And what better way to start a summer holiday than with a delicious meal or drink at the airport? We’ve rounded up our favourite spots for summer dining and drinking at the airport.
What says summer more than a burger? It reminds you of BBQs in the backyard or the park, with lots of friends and lots of sunshine. At the airport, there is a great selection of mouth-watering burger options to fill you up before you fly. Wetherspoon serves burgers and chips made with British ingredients – 100% British beef, 100% British potatoes, and British lettuce, tomatoes and red onions when in season.
Burgers at Factory Bar & Kitchen come with savoury toppings like pulled pork and onion bhaji, hickory bbq sauce and citrus slaw. There are grilled chicken burgers for a lighter option, as well as a spiced falafel burger for vegetarians.
At Giraffe, the burger selection centres on beef burgers made from prime Irish beef and topped with smoky bacon and Cheddar. For a twist on the classic, try their harissa chicken burger, marinated in a spicy chilli paste and garnished with fresh herbs, cucumber, and lemon yoghurt.
Fruits and vegetables are in their prime during the summer months. From juicy cherries, peaches, and tomatoes to crisp cucumbers, beans, and salad greens, there’s no shortage of healthy ingredients for fresh salads. Inspired by global flavours, Giraffe’s salads are anything but boring. Try the Scandinavian salmon salad with new potatoes, capers, and a mustard dressing. Or go Californian with a quinoa salad full of beets, spinach, lentils, radish, and pomegranate.
Pret a Manger is also known for its summery salads and wraps. Try the Asian tofu salad – a bed of spinach and coriander topped with marinated mushrooms and tangy pickled carrot and cabbage. Wraps include an avocado and herb wrap, a Greek salad wrap, and an Indian-inspired chickpea and mango wrap, served with coconut yoghurt dressing.
Wetherspoon, Factory Bar and Kitchen, Giraffe, and Pret a Manger are all located after security in the departure lounge.
Costa is a great spot for summer drinks, especially with their new range of summer coolers. Colour-coordinated smoothies mix bright fruits – a yellow mix of pineapple, passion fruit, and mango; a green mix of apple, melon, and kiwi; and a red mix of grapes, watermelon and strawberries. Other blends include a strawberries and cream cooler, and a tropical cooler with pineapple, lime, and coconut milk.
Costa has three locations – before security in the arrivals greeting area, after security in the departure lounge, and next to Gate 54.
To start your holidays off with a stronger drink, head to a bar in the departure lounge. After a glass of bubbly at Bottega or a local ale at Factory Bar & Kitchen, you’ll feel like you’re already at your holiday destination. You can also escape the summer heat with an ice cold cocktail from All Bar One, like a classic Pimm’s or a mojito. For something new, try a Southside Vine, made with gin, mint, and grapes.
Bottega is located after security in the departure lounge. All Bar One has two locations – before security at the check in area and after security within the south lounge gates.
Summer cocktails don’t have to end at the airport; pick up a bottle of something special at World Duty Free to take with you. They’ve developed a range of summer cocktail recipes that can be made with some of their best products, like a Cherry Vodka Colada made with Absolut Cherry Vodka and a Peach Blossom Prosecco cocktail made with Da Luca Prosecco.
World Duty Free has three locations – two after security and one in arrivals after baggage reclaim.
