Please pre-book special assistance with your airline or tour operator at least 48 hours before departure or arrival at Birmingham Airport.

You should also tell your airline if you intend to take your own electric mobility aid.

At the time of booking your flight or up to 48 hours in advance of travelling, please contact your airline directly or via your travel agent to pre-book assistance.

You should also tell your airline if you intend to take your own electric mobility aid. The airline will require the make and model of your mobility equipment along with the weight and dimensions. This information is required to make your electric mobility aid safe for travel.

Assistance at the Airport

Our Planning your airport trip page will provide you with lots of useful information regarding any Airport trip, giving handy tips for before you travel, when you are at the Airport and after you have travelled.

Food and powders should be packed into your hold luggage where possible, although these items are permitted in your hand luggage. You are more likely to avoid further security checks if you do not have any such items. Please see advisory information from the Department for Transport.

Blue Badge holders (or their driver) are entitled to up to 30 minutes free parking within the Premium Set Down car park.  More information regarding car park for disabled passengers can be found on our Assisted Travel page.

Blue badge parking bays can also be found in our Drop Off car park, however they are still advised to use the Premium Set Down car park as above.

All our Security Officers are trained in equality and diversity to enable them to understand sensitivities regarding disabilities. A private search area is available. Walking aids are provided to assist passengers through the Archway Metal Detector (AMD). Seating is available close to the AMD in the search area. Water is available if required.

If you need to take prescription liquid medication in your hand luggage, this will be screened using specific equipment. When carrying medicine you will also require the prescription.

Passengers with autism should book assistance through their airline or tour operator at least 48 hours before departure or arrival into Birmingham Airport. More information which includes a booklet to help our autistic passengers familiarise themselves with the journey through the Airport can be found on our Assisted Travel page.

The criteria for arrival into Birmingham Airport with a guide dog are:

● Valid European pet passport● Valid rabies vaccination certificate● Active pet identity microchip● The dog must have had worming treatment no longer than 5 days from your day of travel

Our assistance team will meet you at the aircraft on arrival into Birmingham Airport to scan your dog's microchip and validate the documents. Once complete and satisfactory, you will be able to continue your journey, supported by one of our assistance team if required.

On your departure, there is no requirement for the assisted travel team to scan your pets microchip or re-check the documents as this is only the responsibility of the arriving airport
