What to expect in Palma

A stunning city dating back to the 13th century, Palma is richly studded with historical sites. But it’s not all gothic cathedrals and medieval streets; Palma also houses an endless array of galleries, restaurants, craft studios and bars.

Mallorca has a language all of its own, called Mallorquin. Don't worry – no one will expect you to speak it, but you might hear it being used while you're on holiday. Spanish is spoken everywhere, and most people speak English very well.

Palma’s welcoming climate attracts visitors all year around with hot summers and mild, pleasant winters.

Culture in Palma

Palma de Mallorca will make you fall in love with its Mediterranean culture. With art, history, scenery and gastronomic delights, it’s is one of the Mediterranean’s most underrated cities. The city’s iconic Gothic Cathedral dominates the skyline, hiding a treasure trove of religious ruins and contemporary art beneath it. Explore the labyrinthine cobbled streets filled with delis, boutiques, cafés and galleries.

If you’re visiting during January, you may be lucky enough to experience Fiestas de Sant Sebastia, Mallorca’s biggest annual festival. A two-week celebration of the city’s patron saint, the fiesta brings everyone together for bonfires, shared meals, live performances and traditional dancing.

What makes Spanish cuisine so special is that each region has its variations. Some of the favourites in Mallorca are sobrassada (spreadable cured sausage) and ensaïmada (a sweet pastry made with pork lard).
