Birmingham Airport gets set for Christmas getaway
Birmingham Airport has said it is preparing for a busy Festive Season as passenger predictions will see an increase of 11% in departing and arriving passengers between 20th December and January 6th.
Airport predicts 11% increase in departing and arriving passengers between 20th December 2024 and 6th January 2025, in comparison to the same period last year.
The increase amounts to over half a million arriving and departing passengers.
Airport issues travel tips for passengers in order to ensure their journey is as jolly as can be.
Birmingham Airport has said it is preparing for a busy Festive Season as passenger predictions will see an increase of 11% in departing and arriving passengers between 20th December and 6th January. The airport confirmed its festive forecasts off the back of its busiest November yet, with near (9%) double digit increases in passenger volumes. Last month also saw the growing airport announce a further two easyJet based aircraft at Birmingham, supporting around 800 local jobs. As airport colleagues gear up to see over half a million festive passengers depart and arrive, it also issues advice to travellers to ensure their journey is as jolly as the main man. Whilst we all like to have Christmas wrapped up as early as possible, taking gifts in beautiful gift wrapping is problematic in an airport. Passengers are reminded that gift wrapped presents should not be in any of your luggage.
Whilst a main staple of the season, do not pop crackers or party poppers in your cabin luggage, as they have a habit of popping off themselves!
Whilst replica toy guns or weapons may be on some present wish lists, they will not pass through any airport screening! Make sure they are not in any part of your luggage, in order to avoid any Christmas morning disappointment.
Despite it being Christmas, normal rules apply on liquids, pastes or gels and containers over 100ml are NOT allowed in your cabin luggage.
Refillable water bottles can be carried though however, must be empty, refill stations are available once through security.
Whilst we love them, the volume of liquid inside snow globes are difficult to determine. And so, if you have one, make sure it is in hold luggage!
Enough baby food and milk for the journey can be carried on but will be subject to further screening if in excess of the 100ml rule.
Those travelling with medication will need to ensure they have enough on them for their journey, but also have supporting medical documentation if in excess of the rules.

In order to help that, we ask that passengers consider the above advice as there may be points they haven’t factored into their Christmas packing - and our potential unwrapping! None of our colleagues want to spoil Christmas surprises and so by following our advice, no presents will be left behind. We hope that all our passengers have a great Christmas getaway and enjoy our festive interactions we have across our airport.” Passengers are reminded to arrive at the airport in line with the advice from their airline, as all differ. If bad weather is forecast, leave more time getting to the airport if trains and roads are busier than normal.
