Birmingham Airport (BHX) has set a new passenger record for September, welcoming 1,386,372 passengers through its terminal, a 2.9% increase from the same month last year.

Low-cost flights once again proved to be the main driver behind the passenger increase, up 11.4% from September 2025 figures.

The month's most popular destinations included Dublin, Palma, Alicante, Amsterdam and Malaga.

The month’s highlights also included a double win at this year’s Solihull Chamber Awards. The airport secured the titles of Community Builder and Sustainability Trailblazer in recognition of progress made over the last year on its net-zero goal for 2033 and building relationships with the community.

Colleagues and third-party partners also took part in a Dragon Boat Race organised by Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, BHX’s current charity partner. The 17-person team not only achieved an impressive third place but also raised more than £2,645 to help the organisation continue supporting young patients and their families. An activity bringing the airport even closer to its fundraising goal of £250k for the charity by the end of its three-year partnership.

Matt Hazelwood, Chief Commercial Officer of Birmingham Airport, said: “The high passenger performance of September is particularly encouraging as we come to the end of our busy summer season with additional growth achieved year-on-year. The continued growth comes just as we begin to kick off our winter flight programmes. With bucket-list winter destinations incoming including Reykjavik, Gdansk, Cairo, Rovaniemi, Frankfurt, and Copenhagen all featuring on the departure boards for passengers jetting off on skiing trips, festive city breaks and winter sun escapes, there is something for every traveller this forthcoming season.”

September also saw the airport launch new content supporting its marketing activity targeting out of home and digital channels. Paying homage to Birmingham metal roots whilst telling a local airport story, new adverts can be seen across multiple channels, in the local area.
