BHX races along the canal for Birmingham Children's Hospital Charity

A crew of 17 BHX colleagues represented the airport alongside third-party partners Atkins and VolkerFitzpatrick in three 200-metre races along the canals, joining the other 59 organisations all battling it out to win the Dragon Trophy.

This was the second consecutive year the airport team has taken part in the challenge.

After competing last year and contributing to a record-breaking £300,000 raised across the two-day event, the team were keen to get back on the water and have another go.

This year, the BHX team finished in 3^rd place and contributed to a fundraising total of £308,485 raised by all participating teams.

The money raised will help fund equipment, research, facilities and wellbeing support at the hospital, which provides specialist care to around 100,000 children every year.

Steven Harrison, one of the BHX colleagues who took part in the race, described his experience: “Proud to be part of Team BHX for the dragon boat race in support of Birmingham Children's Hospital. The energy, teamwork and spirit to come third place made the event truly memorable whilst raising vital funds for a fantastic cause.”

Tom Denton, Head of Sustainability at Birmingham Airport, said, “I want to say a massive thank you to everyone who got involved with this event, from donating and organising to jumping into a dragon boat and giving everything they had. This was the second year we have taken part in this event, and both times have been unforgettable.

“We are well on our way to reaching our target of raising £250,000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, a fantastic cause that helps so many children and their families, and we couldn’t be prouder.”
