BHX reduces electricity and gas consumption year-on-year
Birmingham Airport (BHX)’s electricity and gas consumption fell by 1% and 4% respectively in 2023/24 compared to the previous financial year, a report published today revealed.
Emissions have fallen by 25% in 2023/24 versus 2019/20, the most recent pre-pandemic year, against growing passengers’ numbers as the Airport recovers from the pandemic. This is a significant achievement and shows that BHX is on course to achieve carbon net zero by 2033.
Simon Richards, Chief Finance and Sustainability Officer at BHX, said: “This report shows encouraging progress toward our 2033 goal of becoming a net zero carbon airport. We have continued to focus on reducing our energy demand and have a roadmap of carbon reduction projects on the horizon that will take us towards our goal.”
