Colleagues from Birmingham Airport (BHX) and partner organisations have spread festive joy to young patients at Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity in support of the charity’s Christmas Appeal.
Forty colleagues from across the airport volunteered to gift wrap over 1000 gifts for patients and their families as part of BHX’s ongoing corporate partnership with Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity.
All presents were then gifted at the hospital’s festive pop-up grotto by Birmingham Airport colleagues who took on the role of Father Christmas and his elves.Three BHX colleagues volunteered as ‘magicmakers’ for the day, dressing up in costume to provide patients with a magical meet and greet grotto experience. Earlier this month, colleagues at the regional transport hub also participated in the charity’s Jolly Jumper Day by wearing festive jumpers and accessories to raise funds for the hospital.
News of the charitable work follows a successful year-long partnership between Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity and Birmingham Airport which has resulted in thousands of pounds fundraised through large-scale colleague events, passenger-facing initiatives and charity challenges. In October, the airport hosted its inaugural charity dinner, raising over £63,000 for the hospital and last month an additional £18,000 was fundraised at a Runway Fun Run event for colleagues.
Located in Birmingham city centre, the hospital is a leading UK specialist paediatric centre and offers expert care to over 100,000 children and young people from across the country every year.
Commenting on the airport’s support of Christmas Appeal, Tom Denton, Head of Sustainability, at Birmingham Airport said:
“We’re pleased to be supporting our partner Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity’s Christmas Appeal this year to bring some much-needed festive joy to local families in our region. From gift wrapping toys to hosting Father Christmas, it’s been great to see our colleagues come together to support such an incredible cause.”
Katie Harris, Corporate Partnerships Manager at Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, said:
“The team at Birmingham Airport have worked so hard to help us make Christmas magical for sick kids spending the festive season with us. From putting smiles on our patients’ faces as they volunteered as Santa and his elves in our hospital Grotto, to the 1,000 gifts they lovingly wrapped to make the festive experience even more special, we can’t thank BHX enough for their continued support.”
