From Airbus A320s to Boeing 737s and Dreamliners, LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre Birmingham is calling all aviation superfans to enter a competition where they will be in with a chance of having their plane (and themselves!) made into LEGO® for a new Birmingham Airport build in Miniland.
A new poll has revealed that being a pilot is one of the top dream jobs for children, with one in five little ones agreeing*. LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre Birmingham is giving one lucky youngster the chance to make that dream take flight.
To celebrate the launch of Birmingham Airport in its popular Miniland attraction, LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre Birmingham is on the lookout for the city’s biggest ‘little’ aviation fan to help complete the build alongside its Master Model Builders.
A third of UK kids said that the runways were their favourite part of an airport, with a further 15 per cent citing going through security as the ‘best bit.’* Luckily for these children, the Birmingham Airport build will have mini luggage belts, two coffee shops, a tiny passport control and one runway featuring various planes. The sky really was the limit with this miniature build!
The winner will get the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to:
Finish the Birmingham Airport build in Miniland with the expert LEGO® Model Building team
See themselves immortalised in LEGO® – recreated as a mini figure in a pilot’s outfit, displayed permanently alongside their own creation in Miniland
An exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of Birmingham Airport
Michelle Oakes, Master Model Builder and creator of the Birmingham Airport build, from LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre Birmingham said: "We know that becoming a pilot is one of the most exciting dreams for children and now we’re making that dream a little more colourful, brick by brick! Our new Birmingham Airport build is set to ‘wow’ visitors, and we can’t wait to welcome one passionate aviation fan to help us bring it to life in Miniland. With two in five kids saying they love to build vehicles from LEGO®, we want to see their creations! Whether they’re fascinated by jumbo jets or tiny turbo props, this is a chance to have a day they’ll never forget."
Jo Roberts, Head of Corporate Affairs and Marketing, at Birmingham Airport said: “We are delighted that Birmingham Airport has been brought to life in the iconic LEGO brick, as a major regional landmark within MiniLand at LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre Birmingham. The incredibly detailed miniature set has remarkable attention-to-detail with features of our airport that families will instantly recognise. We are confident that this replica will help creatively inspire the next generation of aviation enthusiasts and we look forward to hosting our city’s ‘littlest’ biggest aviation fan for a very special airport experience soon.”
Aspiring pilots aged 11 and below can submit their entries via [email protected] by sharing a picture of them with one of their best LEGO® plane builds alongside and why they should be chosen to help complete the Birmingham Airport build in LEGO®.
