Birmingham Airport (BHX) has achieved a score of 63 out of 100 in its first EcoVadis sustainability assessment, earning the EcoVadis Committed Badge.

Published 6 November 2026

EcoVadis is one of the world's most recognised business sustainability rating platforms, assessing organisations across four key themes: Environment, Labour & Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement.

The assessment recognised the airport's robust environmental policies, management systems and operational practices, reflecting the organisation's ongoing commitment to reducing its environmental impacts and progressing its decarbonisation journey to net zero carbon by 2033.

The EcoVadis assessment will also play an important role in BHX’s wider responsible business strategy. As well as measuring and improving its own sustainability performance, the airport is using EcoVadis to strengthen sustainability throughout its supply chain, encouraging suppliers and partners to demonstrate robust environmental, social and ethical practices.

To ensure third-party organisations are aligned with BHX’s strategic themes, suppliers and contractors working at the airport will be subject to due diligence checks and contract management processes as part of a new sustainable procurement policy. In a further bid to embed sustainability within the wider airport community, specialised engagement and training programmes will be delivered which recognise and promote sustainable business practices.

By working collaboratively with suppliers, the airport aims to improve transparency, manage sustainability risks and help drive positive change across the aviation sector and beyond.

Tom Denton, Head of Sustainability at Birmingham Airport, said: "Achieving the EcoVadis Committed Badge is an important milestone in our sustainability journey. The assessment provides independent recognition of the progress we have made, particularly in environmental management, while also giving us valuable insight into areas where we can continue to improve.

"We are committed to embedding sustainability across every aspect of our business and will use the findings from this assessment to drive continuous improvement in the years ahead."
