Here are some top tips on travelling through the Airport with Children
Transport to the Airport
We advise arriving by car or train to the Airport.
Birmingham Airport is linked to Birmingham International station by an air-rail link shuttle which takes just two minutes and is free to use.
For the best deals on parking, pre-book as far in advance as possible.
Valet parking is a great option if you are travelling with the kids and all of your luggage. Simply park your car in the Valet Parking car park next to the terminal building and report to the Valet Parking reception cabin where they will park your car for you in a car park on-site. When you return, report back to the reception cabin and your car will be waiting for you.
Pushchairs are available when you get off the plane to help with your journey to the baggage hall when you can collect your luggage. The pushchairs are coin operated with a £1 deposit which is refundable at the pushchair return point located within the baggage hall.
Baby Changing Facilities
There are baby changing rooms located throughout the terminal for you to change nappies or feed your baby. Most of these are located near to the toilets.
Everyone needs to be scanned going through Security, so apart from babies, walking children need to go through the Archway Metal Detector individually.
Medicines or special diet foods (Over 100ml) in hand luggage should be carried with a Doctor's letter or prescription explaining their necessity.
Baby Milk and Other Essentials
Baby milk and baby food can be taken in hand luggage through Security. Please make the security officer aware you are carrying this.
Baby milk and other essentials can be pre-ordered online at Boots for collection in our Departure Lounge shop, so there is no need for you to have to carry this through security. This must be pre-ordered at least 5 days in advance.
Both our No.1 Lounge and Aspire Lounge allow children accompanied by adults. You can pre-book or turn up on the day but there are savings if you book in advance.
Food and Drink
Our restaurants are delighted to welcome children and most have special menus and colouring packs for entertainment.
Wherever possible our restaurants will accommodate all special requirements. Frankie & Benny’s now offer a coeliac society approved menu for gluten free diets. To discuss and arrange in advance, please contact our restaurants directly. All contact numbers are on the restaurant pages of this website
Birmingham Airport has an absolutely awesome interactive play area that will keep your kids entertained before you fly. There are games for the youngest of our passengers through to ages 13 and upwards. There are two Sky Zones in the departure lounge - one by Gate 3 in the South Lounge and one by Gate 54 in the North Lounge and these are open between the first and last flight. Find out more.
