Birmingham Airport (BHX) scaled down its carbon emissions by 8% in 2024/25 as the regional transport hub levels up efforts to become net zero by 2033. The figure, which marks the airport’s highest annual reduction in emissions for a full operational year, was announced in the airport’s annual Greenhouse Gas Emissions Report which outlines BHX’s progress in tackling its carbon footprint.

Birmingham Airport (BHX) has ended the summer travel season on a high with over 1.3 million passengers choosing the regional transport hub in September. 1,346,071 passengers travelled through the airport in September 2025 – a 2.7% increase compared to the same period last year.


 

Birmingham Airport (BHX) has invested a further £3.8 million in its assisted travel service with the introduction of a fleet of brand new purpose-built ambulifts. Twelve new ambulifts will be rolled out over the next 10 months at the regional transport hub, increasing the airport’s capacity to support passengers with disabilities or additional needs.
